High science. High stakes. Real-time visibility of whether something is actually changing a life.
Pharma & Life Sciences sits where commercial judgement meets clinical reality. New evidence appears, treatments evolve, products improve and the people selling them have to understand enough to be useful when the conversation matters.
The work can be technical, complex and heavily scrutinised. The outcome is still deeply human.

PHARMA & LIFE SCIENCES
In Pharma & Life Sciences, a product can be clinically valuable, approved and even funded in principle and still be a long way from routine use.
There may still be questions around diagnosis, referral, budgets, procurement, staffing, training, service capacity or where the product actually fits within an existing pathway. Approval can make adoption possible without making it happen. That changes what strong commercial experience looks like.
Salespeople may need to understand far more than the person prescribing or buying the product. They learn how clinical, pharmacy, procurement, finance, commissioning and operational decisions connect, and where something that looks commercially promising can still become stuck.
Marketing works within the same system. It has to translate complex evidence accurately, support different audiences with different information needs and help create confidence around not only what a product does, but where and how it can realistically be used.
The Pharma & Life Sciences Economy
Pharma & Life Sciences covers pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical technology, diagnostics and other science-led healthcare businesses operating across research, development, manufacturing and commercialisation.
The UK Life Sciences sector generates around £147 billion in turnover and employs approximately 360,000 people, according to the UK Government's July 2026 Life Sciences Sector Plan implementation update.
The sector also remains one of the UK's major research and export industries. Pharmaceutical manufacturing generated £20.4 billion in real-terms GVA in 2023, while UK pharmaceutical exports were worth £24.7 billion in 2024.
Ireland has an exceptionally large pharmaceutical manufacturing base. Medical and pharmaceutical exports reached €138.6 billion in 2025, representing 53.2% of all Irish goods exports during the year.
Commercial conditions within that economy vary considerably. An established primary-care medicine, specialist hospital therapy, diagnostic platform, medical device and research technology can all involve very different customers, evidence requirements, access routes and buying processes.
